17th Space Coast Open
Eric Rodriguez (2354) beats his teacher GM Becerra and enters the last round with a 4-0 score a full point ahead of three other players. Paired against Ernesto Alverez, they split a pizza and the point with a “fast” draw giving Rodriguez a clear 1st and a $1000.00 check, and raising Alvarez’s rating to just over 2200
Becerra’s last round win over Goran Markovic, allows the GM to take home $600.00 for 2nd leaving four players splitting the remaining money in the prize fund of the Master/Expert section of the 17th Space Coast Open played over the April 23-25 weekend.
Meanwhile World’s Woman Champion GM Alexandra Kosteniuk celebrated her birthday by playing nearly 50 players simultaneously. After about 4 hours she had lost one game to a “prepared” Wayne Strickland and drew three games, including one to John Ludwig, who is concentrating on surpassing his older brother Daniel.
