2016 Autumn Open Concludes with a clear winner in the Premier Section!

2016 CFCC AUTUMN OPEN CONCLUDES WITH CLEAR WINNER IN PREMIER SECTION!

The 2016 CFCC Autumn Open was held over the October 28-30 weekend at the International Palms Resort with a strong attendance of 139 players, including three participants rated 2400+ and several more who were titled!

PREMIER

In the Premier section, FM Yans Richard Girones Barrios (2508) defeated IM Rafael Prasca Sosa in the final round, clinching first place with 4.5/5 points. FM Jorge Leon Oquendo (2470) won second place with a score of 4 points. Theodore Slade (2104), Joshua Harrison (2081), and Martin Hansen (2086) tied for 3rd place with 3.5/5 points.

U2000

U2000 Round 5: Ryan Hamley (L) vs John Givler (R)

In the U2000 section, Jayant Maheshwari (1777) won first place on tiebreaks with 4/5 points, leaving Anthony Coleman (1986) and John Givler (1947) to share second place. Naman Kumar (1976), Ryan Hamley (1935), and Brandon Sibbitt (1618) all finished with 3.5/5 points and thus tied for third place. 

U1700

U1700 Round 5: Connor Eickelman (L) vs Nathan Drake Huffaker (R)

In the U1700 section, Connor Eickelman (1681) earned first place with 4.5/5 points (a full point ahead of the other winners!). Daniel Smith, Christopher Fashek, Raghav Kalyanaraman, and Nathan Drake Huffaker all finished with 3.5 points.

U1400

U1400 Round 2: Colby Ferraro vs Kira Caza

In the U1400 section, Anish Gupta (970) secured first place with an undefeated score of 5-0; moreover, he earned an impressive rating increase of 385 points! Nathan Hennig (1333), Haider Zaidi (1124), and Colby Ferraro (269) all finished with 4 points. William Kipersztok (1141) and Anthony Qi (1066), each sporting an upset win (against #2 and #5 in the standings, respectively) and 3 points, shared the U1300 prize.

U1200 SCHOLASTIC

U1200 Round 2: Jayda Hooker (L) vs Henry Chen (R)

The U1200 Scholastic featured the biggest section with a playing field of 36 players, including a group of participants from Kentucky. Anmol Warman won first place with 4.5/5 points. Finishing behind him were Ethan Hand, Alex Yim, David Jin, and George Cary, each with 4 points. Winners of the U1000 prize included Henry Chen (960), Jarquis Jones (737), and Jayda Hooker (713).
