CFCC Announces Winners of August 22nd Online Rapid Prize Tournament!

Saturday's Rapid Winners (8/22)

Tournament Scheduling Note: The club has cancelled its Wednesday evening online Blitz tournaments and will now only be offering online Rapid 15|10 tournaments every other Saturday, with the next Rapid tournament taking place on September 5, 2020.

Saturday’s Rapid Winners (8/22)

The club wishes to congratulate Mike Thomas (gmiket) for winning clear 1st Place in yesterday’s online Rapid tournament with a perfect score of 4/4 points and a prize award of $40.

There was a two-way tie for 2nd Place, with goranm21 and Williamwu1234567 scoring 3/4 points, giving each player a combined prize award of $20 each.

There was a three-way tie for a combined top U1800/U1500 prize award for Neelsahai, tombo1948, and John235783, who each scored 2/4 points and a prize award of $10 each, while Anderbot won the top U1200 prize award of $15 with a score of 1.5/4.

We had 9 club players competing in yesterday’s Rapid online prize tournament that includes a results table listing all the players and tournament pairings, and we look forward to our next Rapid online prize tournament on September 5th that starts exactly at 2pm EST!

No Winner’s For Last Wednesday’s Scheduled 5SS G/3|2 Blitz (8/19)

There were not enough registered players last Wednesday (8/19) to be able to pair the 5SS G/3 | 2 Blitz tournament on chess.com so the event was cancelled.

Due to the lack of interest in our online blitz tournaments with prizes for the last two weeks, the club is currently not scheduling blitz events at this time.

New CFCC Online Player Lookup Table

In an effort to discourage the few online players who apparently want to play dramatically stronger online than they are able to do in OTB USCF tournaments, the club now provides a quick access alphabetical online-username-to-USCF lookup table as an objective reference point for evaluating a player's online vs over-the-board performance.

Reminder of Chess.com’s Fair Play Policies For Online Tournaments

Chess.com has strict Fair Play policies and advanced software analysis tools regarding players who appear to be using some form of electronic assistance (e.g. chess engines) in making their moves in tournament games played on their platform.

In fact, after a chess.com review process of our May 9th online tournament, two of our players in that tournament, who finished in 1st & 2nd place, were flagged by chess.com for their unrealistic accuracy rate in games against titled National Master players. As such, both players had their accounts closed by chess.com and were disqualified from winning their place prizes.
